Basic Land and Property Units (BLPUs) represent the physical existence of a land or property unit. They contain a unique identifier and a geographical co-ordinate, or a point. There is support for the extent or boundary (polygon) to be captured and managed and there are advantages associated with this. For example consider flood forecasting and management. If the predicted floodwater boundary does not reach the BLPU point of a property, it may not be considered as ‘at risk’, and yet the boundary of that property might be situated substantially closer to the threat and is very much at risk.
More accurate and meaningful analysis, as well as better visualisation functionality, can be achieved by representing BLPUs as polygons, or extents, but manually capturing these extents can be a time-consuming and costly process.
1Spatial Consultants can provide a variety of BLPU services, including automatic extent creation, to assist you in getting the most out of your geospatial data. Street Basic Land and Property Units (Street BLPUs) represent the physical existence of a street. They facilitate the linking of attribute data such as incidents at the street level for community safety incidents, noise complaints and environmental health incidents. More accurate and meaningful analysis, as well as better visualisation and data exploitation, is achieved by representing Street BLPUs as polygons but capturing these extents can be a time-consuming and costly process because it traditionally has been done manually. Our Street BLPU extent creator carries out the process of capturing this data automatically, enabling Local Authorities to streamline their operations and achieve significant time and cost savings when compared to the manual alternative.
